A workers compensation class code is a four digit numerical code assigned by NCCI or a State Rating Bureau. Class codes are assigned to differentiate between the various job duties or “scope of work performed” by employees. This system assigns different workplace exposures into a system of codes, each one with a manual rate commensurate with the risk associated with that kind of work in a particular state.
The scopes underwriting manual offers detailed information that elaborates on how every type of work should be classified.
