Requirements:

 

Michigan companies with 1 or more employees that work 35+ hours a week for 13 weeks a year or longer must buy a work comp policy in Michigan.

Businesses with 3 or more part-time employees are required to buy work comp insurance. coverage.

Sole Props are not required to cover themselves on workers comp policy.

LLC Members and Corp Officers are usually included under work comp rules but may elect to be excluded under certain situations.

A Rejection or Election of Coverage Form (WC-337 or WC-338) must be filed with the state and insurance carrier.

Partners are generally included on a workers comp policy. Partners may choose to be excluded in the same way as Corporate Officers.

Sole-Proprietors & Partners who include themselves on workers compensation policy must use $18,700 payroll amount for premium calculation purposes. (As of January 1, 2017.

Officers & LLC Members who are not excluded from workers comp insurance coverage must use a minimum payroll of $23,600 and a maximum payroll of $93,600 for premium calculations  (as of January 1, 2017).
